About Tenuta

Tenuta was a support action funded by the eTen Programme from April 2005 - June 2007 to help improve the usability and accessibility of eTEN projects.

The Tenuta participants from the University of York and Halogen Stockholm, are leading experts in the field, and made use of the extensive resources from previous EU projects to provide simple, easy to apply guidance on how to improve usability and accessibility.

Dr Nigel Bevan

Nigel Bevan who was Manager of the Tenuta Project is an independent usability consultant with wide industrial experience. He has managed a series of European projects that have incorporated user centred design into the development processes of several large organisations, and the UsabilityNet project that established a web site of usability resources. He has contributed to many international standards, and is Director for Professional Development at the Usability Professionals Association where he leads the Usability Body of Knowledge initiative.

Professor Helen Petrie

Helen Petrie is Professor of Human Computer Interaction in the Department of Computer Science at the University of York. She is a leading authority on accessibility, and has recently conducted the two largest and most detailed studies of web accessibility, for the Disability Rights Commission of Great Britain. She regularly provides advice on accessibility, usability and user experience to both industry and the public sector. She has over a decade of experience in research on usability and accessibility and has published extensively on these topics.

Nigel Claridge

Nigel Claridge is a well-established international consultant designing for quality-of-use in telecommunications, computer software and the Internet. Nigel has worked on many international projects funded by the European Union and is currently working as an independent consultant to projects bringing location-specific information systems based on advanced mobile communications to user applications across Europe. He regularly gives tutorials and seminars on user-centred design and web usability.
